Ludhiana, July 11, 2016: For the violation of Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 and selling eatables below the quality standards under rules 2011, a leading city hotel, Radisson Blu has been fined Rs 26 lakh while Chaurasia Pan Parlour Rs 2 lakh. This fine has been imposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-Adjudicating Officer Mr Rishipal Singh.
While issuing magisterial orders in this regard, Mr Rishipal Singh informed that few days ago, Mr Manoj Kumar Khosla, Designated Officer-cum-District Health Officer Ludhiana had recorded samples of jam, noodles, "imli" chutney, curd and chutney from Hotel Radisson Blu on Ferozepur Road, here and of True Lemon (Ready to serve Beer) from Chaurasia Pan Parlour, Sector 32 A Market, Chandigarh Road, here.
He informed that when these samples were checked as per the government process in the laboratory, all these products were below the quality standards under Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 and Rules 2011. A checking report from Food Analyst Punjab, Chandigarh, was also issued. Keeping in mind the safety of residents and public interest, Hotel Radisson Blu has been fined Rs 26 lakh and Chaurasia Pan Parlour Rs 2 lakh. This fine has been imposed under section 51 of the act. The violators have been directed to deposit the amount in government treasury immediately.
While giving a clear cut warning to those selling below standard food products, Mr Rishipal Singh said that the violation of Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 would not be tolerated at any cost. He said that if any person is caught violating the act, hefty fines would be imposed on them.
Meanwhile, an official from Radisson Blu said: “It is pertinent to mention that the samples picked up by the health department which were mostly imported and packed and some were Indian Products like Nestle Curd.
The samples of Nestle Curd, Stute Diabetic Jam & How How Rice Noodles (Made in Thailand) were among the products that minor had inconsistencies. Hence we cannot be held responsible for the samples of these products having being found unsatisfactory. However we at our hotel give best and globally acceptable products to our Guests. We will however appeal against this ruling of imposing a huge fine and present the bills of the products to the authorities for taking up the matter with the companies concerned rather than us.”
