Jalandhar / Karnal, December 16, 2012: Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda today urged the people to remain  prepared to make sacrifices for the sake of future generations with the same spirit with which our ancestors had made supreme sacrifices for the freedom of the country.

The Chief Minister was addressing a largely attended function organised to pay tributes to former Minister and MP, Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma on his first death anniversary in Karnal.

Hooda also unveiled  his statue in the premises of government college in Karnal.

While paying rich tributes to Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma, Hooda said that he had the privilege to rub his shoulders with Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma when he was also MP in 1991. He said that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma always remained concerned for the development of the state, especially Karnal and even in the Parliament he used to raise issues concerning the state. He said that it was because of the efforts of Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma that the oil refinery was set up at Panipat. He also got many other development works undertaken in the area.

Hooda said that when his father Ch. Ranbir Singh passed away, Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma had said that he would not feel the void created with the demise of his father and since then he had been considering Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma equal to his father. He said that he had also been seeking his assistance in the development of Haryana.

He said that many leaders like Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma, Ch. Ranbir Singh, Pt. Sri Ram Sharma and Pt. Bhagwad Dayal Sharma have left us, but we must realise their dream of a developed state and society.

While referring to the development of district Karnal, Hooda said that during last 7-8 years, Rs.1,452.92 crore were spent on various development works, whereas during six years of the previous government only Rs.283.28 crore were spent for the same purpose.

The Treasurer of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Moti Lal Vora also paid rich tributes to Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma and described him as a great social worker, who was well known, not only in Haryana, but also in adjoining areas. He said that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma was also a lawyer, who practiced with a missionary zeal and not as a profession. In Parliament he used to speak very clearly to raise issues concerning the state.

General Secretary of All India Congress Committee and MP, Janardhan Dwivedialso paid rich tributes to Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma and said that he belonged to the generation which did not involve in politics as a tradition. He also remained associated with the freedom struggle of the country.

President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Phool Chand Mullana said that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma was a great social worker and Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda deserved all appreciation for naming government college in Karnal after Pt.Chiranji Lal Sharma.

MLA, Ambala, Venod Sharma also paid tributes to Pt. Chiranji Lal and said that he had been the guiding spirit for the common man as well as those in politics. He said that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma wanted to enhance the socio-economic status of the poor.

Speaker Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Kuldeep Sharma, who is son of Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma, said that it was Hooda’s own decision to rename Government College, Karnal after Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma. This, he said reflected that Hooda kept him in high esteem and it was a befitting tribute. As a statue of Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma has also been installed in the premises of the college, it would inspire the future generations.

MP from Karnal, Dr. Arvind Sharma also paid tributes to Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma. He reminded that it was in the year 1980 that Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma had raised his voice in Lok Sabha that a rail coach factory be set up in Karnal. He said that he was supporting that demand even today adding that any industry concerning railway be set up in Karnal.

Hooda, Vora and Dwivedi released a magazine entitled as ‘Ravitez’ brought out by the college to commemorate the memory of Pt. Chiranji Lal Sharma.

They also released a CD brought out by noted Haryanavi folk singer Mahavir Guddu.
