Ludhiana, January 19, 2018: “Hone your extension skills,” said the Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, Dr S.S.Kukal to the students during the rural agricultural work experience (RAWE) programme. The programme has been designed specifically for the final year students of B.Sc.Agri. (Hons). As a part of this ongoing programme, a farmer training camp-cum-exhibition was organized in the village Katana, in which more than 30 farmers, farm women and rural youth participated.Dr Kukal also urged the students to learn more from farmers.
While interacting with the participants, Dr J.S. Bhalla, Head, Department of Extension Education, shared the importance of RAWE programme and expressed his gratitude to the farmers of the village for making this programme successful.
Dr Dharminder Singh, extension specialist, coordinated the work of students in the village. Students apprised the farmers of various services, being provided by PAU, and also informed them about the importance of kitchen gardening.
During the programme, the students were given practical training in conducting different extension activities such as participatory rural appraisal, group discussion and method demonstrations on soil and water testing, eradication of congress grass, Happy Seeder, biogas plant, etc.
