Honda Cars India expects strong sales in festive season

Ludhiana, October 16, 2014: Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars in the country, has said HCIL is focusing its energies to meet the surging consumer demand during the festive season. Riding on the success of the 4th generation Honda City, Honda Amaze and the newly launched Honda Mobilio,HCIL has registered an overall growth of 48%during the period April – September 2014 with 88,200 units being sold in India. North India contributes to more than 27% of the HCIL sales and is witnessing similar growth in the current fiscal year.
Interacting with the media persons here today, he added the last financial year proved to be the year full of opportunities and expansion for Honda Cars India Limited. During Apr’13, the company forayed into the diesel segment in the Indian car market by launching the 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine with the launch of Honda Amaze and the car has received an overwhelming success selling more than 110,000 units across the country since its launch. Honda has recently launched an “Amazingly Indian” campaign for the Amaze to celebrate this success and has organized a ‘Longest Drive through Amazing India’ initiative. The drive will cover a distance of over 23,000 Kms moving through 250 cities and towns showcasing the car’s durability and reliability through diverse terrains covering the length and breadth of the country.
He further said during Jan’14, the company launched the all-new 4thGeneration Honda City in the Indian market. The all-new City, developed as a global sedan, embodies the best of Honda’s technologies to deliver Advanced Sporty Design, Best Comfort and Best Fuel Efficiency which exceeds customer’s expectations. Available in both Diesel and Petrol fuel options, the company has sold more than 58,000 units since its launch and continues to dominate the sales in the mid size sedan segment.
He told that Honda entered the MPV segment in India with the launch of its mid-size stylish 7-seater, Honda Mobilio in July 2014. The car marks an evolution in the MPV segment by offering a unique combination of Sporty Exterior styling along with Space, Comfort and Utility in just the right size to suit the needs of Indian families. Powered by 1.5L i-DTEC diesel and 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engines, Honda Mobilio has clocked impressive sales of more than 14,000 units in the first 3 months of its launch and establishing it strongly in the Indian market.
Expressing delight on the company’s overall performance, Sen said, “We are thankful to our customers for the great response we have achieved from them for our two big launches of All New City and the Honda Mobilio in 2014. With both manufacturing plants in operation and a fresh & strong product portfolio, we are confident for strong growth in this fiscal year. In line with our plans to expand our network in the country, we aim to increase our dealer network by 35% in this year by reaching out to more tier 2 & tier 3 markets which will be instrumental for our growth. Honda currently has 195 facilities in 127 cities in its network and this will increase to 230 facilities in 150 cities by the end of March 2015.”
