Ludhiana, August 1, 2019: Even as the Ludhiana city received heavy rainfall today, but one area of the city, i.e Ludhiana West constituency, remained comparatively free from waterlogging.
Thanks to the rainwater harvesting wells that have been constructed in different areas of Ludhiana West constituency, represented by Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Bharat Bhushan Ashu. The rainwater accumulated in the constituency, receded within minutes of the end of heavy rainfall.
The areas from where rainwater receded quickly include Sarabha Nagar, Model Gram, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Rajguru Nagar and several other areas. “Almost 99% of the areas had no problem of waterlogging and wherever there was a problem of waterlogging, the water receded within minutes,” MC Councillor Mamta Ashu said.
She informed that all the rainwater harvesting wells have been constructed with the efforts of respective MC Councillors and the RWA’s. She said that no funds were taken from MC Ludhiana for this social cause and it was all done with the active support of area residents. While urging the residents of Ludhiana West constituency to join hands for this cause, Mrs Mamta Ashu said that if any RWA or MC Councillor wants any support in this regard, they can contact her office located in Model Gram at any time.
Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that Ludhiana received one of the heaviest rainfalls of recent times today. He said that in areas, where rainwater harvesting wells have been constructed by the MC Councillors and RWA’s, there was no problem of waterlogging. He said that some rainwater harvesting wells are coming up in Ludhiana West constituency because it would solve a dual purpose of recharging depleting groundwater besides our roads would not get damaged.
Ashu said that one such well has been constructed near DAV Public School, BRS Nagar with a cost of around Rs 25 lakh. He also admitted that some areas such as Mall Road, Ghumar Mandi, near Sarabha Nagar Police Station, main road in Sunet, main Rajguru Nagar Market and main road, G block from main Ferozepur road side and some others faced problem of water logging and efforts are being made to ensure that this problem is resolved permanently so that residents heave a sigh of relief for coming days. He assured that in coming days, even these areas won’t have water logging problem soon.
