Ludhiana, August 25, 2019: Hero DMCH Heart Institute (HDHI) is organizing two-days workshop on ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation), The participants from various part of country will not only be getting opportunity to interact and discuss with experienced and renowned faculty but will be given hands on training on the use of ECMO and management of complications.

This training will help participants to use this novel technology in critically ill patients with various heart and lung problems.

Organizing Secretary Dr Vivek Gupta, Consultant at Hero DMC Heart Institutes said that extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, known as ECMO is a life saving treatment which supports heart and lungs for those critically ill patients when other treatment modalities are failed in ICU. It has been effectively used in the institute for treating victims of celphos poisoning, patients suffering from swine flu or lung diseases due to infection, Cardiogenic shock after a massive heart attack and even in cases of Cardiac arrest.

Organizing Chairman Dr Bishav Mohan, eminent cardiologist said that organizing of such conferences help the budding physicians to know about the proper usage and functioning of ECMO machine to treat several acute ailments. He added that HDHI is the highest ECMO performing center in North India.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri and Vice Principal Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander. During his address Sh Prem Gupta said that DMC&H is running ECMO program successfully for last 5 years and we are committed to provide our services at affordable charges.

Dr Sandeep Puri, Principle DMC& H said very few center in the country are performing ECMO since it is resource intensive procedure. This workshop is an excellent platform to discuss various aspect of management of patients on ECMO.

Dr GS Wander Chief Cardiologist & Coordinator HDHI congratulated the delegate and said that HDHI has developed a separate ECMO unit to provide better and focused care to critically ill patients.

The scientific sessions during the two-day workshop included lectures, case based discussion and hands on training on simulators for starting ECMO, managing complication and removing ECMO once patient improves by experienced faculty Dr Venkat Goyal & Dr Pranay Oza Mumbai, Dr Arpan Chakraborty Kolkata, Dr Poonam Malhotra New Delhi along with faculty from HDHI. . Presently, ECMO treatment is available in only few medical institutions of the country and it is the need of the hour to sensitize present day physicians and cardiologists about usage of ECMO treatment.

This workshop was attended by around 70 delegates from various institutes of country. The workshop got concluded with an impressive valedictory function, which marked the honoring of all esteemed guest faculty and vote of thanks to the participating delegates in making this workshop-cum-CME a great success.
