Takes on Mumbai Maharathi in opener at Panchkula tomorrow
Panchkula, January 13, 2019: Defending champions NCR Punjab Royals will aim for a hat-trick of titles as they start their campaign in the much-awaited Pro Wrestling League (PWL) season 4 opener against Mumbai Maharathi at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Chandigarh, on Monday evening. The Punjab Royals had defeated Haryana Hammers in two consecutive finals in the last two seasons.
On Monday, world No. 1 in 65 Kg freestyle category Bajrang Punia will lead the NCR Punjab Royals challenge against Mumbai Maharathi in the epic showdown. The Mumbai Maharathi team will be led by Vinesh Phogat who recently became India’s first women to win a gold medal at Asian Games. Vinesh will compete in 53kg weight category.
The Pro Wrestling League which has seen massive acceptance by its fans in the last three seasons is back again with lot more glitz and glamour in the fourth edition. The fourth season looks to further entertain its fans as it prepares to enter with a star-studded line-up with some of the most prominent wrestlers from around the world.
Junior Asian Championship runner-up Naveen, will be seen wearing the NCR Punjab Royal colour in the 57 kg category. Apart from the two Asiad gold medallists, the evening will also see 2017 European Championship silver medallist Zsanett Nemeth in the 76kg female category competing for Mumbai Maharathi along with Pan-American Championship bronze medallist Betzabeth Angelica and national champion Harphool. The former world champion Alina Stadnik will be replaced by Cynthia Vescan who was a bronze medallist at the recently concluded European Championships held in Kaspiysk, Russia.
There will be lot of expectation from Sachin Rathi and Deepak Punia after their gold-medal winning show at the Junior Asian Championships. Sachin in fact ended India’s gold drought in the Junior Asian Championship with a sensational performance and he along with Deepak will play a major role in turning things around for Mumbai Maharathi.
