Chandigarh, April 9, 2016: Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today asked AAP Convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to immediately specify whether his government will file an affidavit in favour of Punjab on the SYL issue in the Supreme Court or not.
In a statement here, the Union minister said a categorical response was needed from Arvind Kejriwal to end the saga of contradictory statements and stands being taken by AAP on an issue which concerned the future of Punjab farmers. "The SAD will not allow him to continue with double speak. He will now have to spell out his stand or stand exposed as a master of double speak", she added.
Stating that AAP was continuing with its game plan to befool Punjabi farmers even as it worked against them, Mrs Badal said now the party was again resorting to a sham by blaming its counsel for the anti- Punjab affidavit given by the Delhi government in the Supreme Court. "No lawyer can take such a stand without getting directions from the government and blaming the lawyer will not undo the betrayal perpetrated on the farmers of Punjab", she added.
The union minister said keeping in view the flip flops of Arvind Kejriwal on the SYL issue, the Delhi CM should immediate state whether he would take a pro - Punjab stand on the next date of hearing of the case in the apex court. "If he does not do this it will prove that he sided with his native State Haryana on this issue as per the stand taken by his government in the Supreme Court", she added.
Mrs Badal said she did not believe Kejriwal would take a categorical stand in favour of Punjab. "The Delhi CM believes in double speak on every issue and has already resorted to double speak on the SYL canal by stating one thing in Punjab and the other in Delhi. However the time for double speak is over. Kejriwal must categorically tell the farmers of Punjab whether he is with them or against them".
The Union minister said as far as the SAD- BJP alliance government was concerned, it would never waiver in its resolve to prevent construction of the SYL canal and protect the interests of its farming community. "We can never betray our proud farmers who are the life blood of our State like that done by Kejriwal. No sacrifice is enough to ensure protection of their interests", Mrs Badal added.
