Ludhiana, September 21, 2012: Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria (SAD) has been elected new City Mayor.
He has been elected unanimously.
Similarly, Sunita Aggarwal (BJP) has been elected as Senior Deputy Mayor and RD Sharma (BJP) as Deputy Mayor. Both were also elected unanimously.
These elections were held at the first general house meet of the newly elected municipal councillors of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC).
Earlier, the newly elected MCs took oath followed by the election for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Punjab Minister, Janmeja Singh Sekhon was present as Observer.
The name of Gohalwaria was proposed by Sunita Aggarwal (BJP). Kamaljit Singh Karwal (SAD) seconded the Gohalwaria’s name.
Finally, Gohalwaria was declared elected Mayor.
It is mentioned here that Karwal is considered to be a close associate of Bains Group. Political observers believe that this is an indication that all, even the Bains group, is agreed on the name of Gohalwaria for the Mayoral post.
Interestingly, Karwal too was in the race for the post of Mayor.
The former Mayor Hakam Singh Gyaspura went out of the general house meet after a few minutes Gohalwaria was declared elected Mayor. The exact reasons are not known.
However, it is mentioned here that Gyaspura too was a strong contender for the Mayoral post this time.
