Continuous Medical Education (CME), Quiz and surgical scrubbing technique demonstration were held to bring awareness about hand hygiene
Ludhiana, May 12, 2017: Fortis hospital, Ludhiana observed hand hygiene day on the occasion of Global Hand hygiene day today. A banner was unveiled at the hospital by Mr Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director of the hospital. This initiative has been undertaken to commemorate World Hand Hygiene Day, where the hospital is spreading a message about importance of having clean hands to lead a healthy life. Dr Rajiv Kundra, Medical Superintendent, Ms Inderjeet Kaur, Infection Control Nurse and Mr Shrikant Juneja, Unit Trainer at the hospital supported the event.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), hundreds of millions of patients around the world are affected by health care-associated infections every year. More than half of these infections can be prevented if caregivers properly clean their hands while attending to the patient. In line with this year’s theme of the campaign, that is Fight antibiotic resistance - it's in your hands, this event at Fortis Hospital aimed at spreading awareness about benefits of hand hygiene techniques.
“Hand hygiene is the simplest, easiest and cheapest method to prevent any kind of acquired infections. Every one of us should follow simple tactics to wash our hands to minimize chances of getting infected,” said Mr. Vivan Singh Gill.
Giving more information Dr. Rajiv Kundra said, “The theme of the day emphasizes the importance of hand hygiene. The call for healthcare facilities to “Clean care is safer care” and to “Safe surgical Hands” should be promoted with complete zeal. Hand hygiene is also important to prevent spread of antimicrobial resistance.”
Giving information regarding the hygiene week, Dr. Vinay Singhal said, “Fortis Hospital celebrated this week as hand hygiene week by conducting infection prevention activities throughout the week.”
Continuous Medical Education (CME), Quiz and surgical scrubbing technique demonstration regarding the Theme was also conducted during the week. The main attraction of the whole week was “Hanry the Hand and his Nukkad Classes”. Chocolates were also distributed to the kids and attendants. 250 Participants including, Consultants ICN, Nurses, GDA, Housekeeping Staff and Patient attendants observed hand hygiene with alcohol based hand rub.
