Ludhiana, May 10, 2016: Fortis hospital Ludhiana observed hand hygiene day on the occasion of Global Hand hygiene day which falls on 5th May each year. The programme was held under the supervision of Dr Manvi Narang, Quality Head and Infection Control Team.

On this occasion of global hand hygiene day Banner was unveiled in the hospital. Mr Vivan Singh Gill, Faculty Director, started the week by emphasising on the WHO theme for the year 2016 as “see your hands, hand hygiene supports safe surgical care.”

“Hand hygiene is the simplest, easiest and cheapest method to prevent hospital acquired infections and one can prevent hospital acquired infections by observing hand hygiene at the point of patient care” said, Mr. Gill.

Giving more information Dr. Shubhdeep Kaur said, “The theme emphasizes the importance of hand hygiene action in demonstrating overall quality of care within health-care facilities. This year WHO is calling for healthcare facilities to “Clean care is safer care” and to “Safe surgical Hands”. Hand hygiene is also important to prevent spread of antimicrobial resistance”.

Giving information regarding the hygiene week Dr. Vinay Singhal and Dr. S.N.Mohanti, said, “Fortis Hospital celebrated this week as hand hygiene week by conducting infection prevention activities throughout the week.”

CME, Quiz and surgical scrubbing technique demonstration regarding the Theme was also conducted during the week. The main attraction of the whole week was “Buuny and his Nukkad Classes”. Chocolates were also distributed to the kids and attendants. 250 Participants including, Consultants ICN, Nurses, GDA, Housekeeping Staff and Patient attendants observed hand hygiene with alcohol based hand rub.
