Guest lecture held on ‘Gestational Diabetes’
Ludhiana, January 14, 2019: A guest lecture was held today in Medical Seminar Room of DMCH. The lecture was delivered by Dr Archnana Dixit from Chelsea & Westminister Hospital, NHS Trust, London on the topic ‘Gestational Diabetes’. In her lecture, Dr Archana Dixit said that ‘Gestational diabetes’ is high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy and usually disappears after giving birth. It can occur at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second half. ‘Gestational Diabetes’ is developed if your body does not produce enough ‘insulin’– a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels, to meet the extra needs in pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can cause problems for mother and her baby during and after birth. But the risk of these problems happening can be reduced if it's detected and well managed. Dr Archana Dixit, in her lecture, suggested that the best way to lower risk for gestational diabetes is to stay healthy and prepare your body for pregnancy. If a female is overweight, she should lay stress on improving her diet, eat healthy foods and lead a good quality life. Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Sandeep Puri,Vice-Principal Dr GS Wander,Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, faculty members and senior residents from Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Medicine
