Chandigarh, October 28, 2012: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today greeted the people of Punjab on the auspicious occasion of Parkash Utsav of Maharishi Valmik and exhorted them to follow his teachings and ideology to carve out an ideal society regardless of caste, colour and creed.

In a message, Badal said that Maharishi Valmik was a great exponent and harbinger of Indian culture and civilisation, the creator of first ever epic the holy 'Ramayana' which is a fountainhead of human culture, moral values and ethics, reservoir of wisdom besides storehouse of all eternal human values.  Maharishi Valmik propagated the message of ideal life based on Righteousness (Dharma) to the mankind through Ramayana which is replete with examples of ideal father, son, husband, wife and brother etc. The Chief Minister called upon the people to celebrate this sacred occasion collectively rising above the parochial consideration of casteism thereby paving a way for altruism in human life as preached by Maharishi Valmik.

Meanwhile, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister today felicitated the people on the eve of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. In a greeting message, he said that Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana had been a great source of inspiration even today. He said that Bhagwan Valmiki was the first writer to use Sanskrit for magnum opus. He said that Maharishi Valmiki was a great spiritual ambassador, who gave the message of social equality, emancipation, communal harmony and welfare of downtrodden and oppressed groups. He said that we all should follow the teachings of Maharishi Valmiki for maintaining communal harmony besides for the welfare of oppressed sections.

Bikram Singh Majithia, Revenue Minister Punjab also extended greetings to the people on the eve of Valmiki Jayanti. He said that Maharishi Valmiki shown us the path of social integrity and accord and we all should follow his teachings. He said that Maharishi Valmiki was a great and revolutionary messiah of downtrodden, and his unmatchable contribution for the welfare of deprived sections of the society would always be a remembered.
