Kila Raipur, February 1, 2015: The Grand Finale of the 79th MRF Kila Raipur Sports Festival witnessed amazing turnout with the stadium bursting at its seams. Such was the enthusiasm of the audience that each time they cheered the veterans running 100 meters, Kabaddi teams or the girls striving to win the 400 meters, the cheer could be heard to a distance from the stadium.
The final day had the stadium bursting at seams, even as the ever favorite bullock cart race wasn’t on cards. Supporters definitely helped sports people crying themselves hoarse as the competitors across Kabaddi, Sprints, Hockey, Cycle races, Horse race, Mule Cars and tractor race.
Baazigars and Nihangs definitely added to the fervor as they showcased amazing feats. Participation from Phillaur Police academy and Handicapped performer, were a treat to watch.
Adeshpratap Singh Kairon, Minister of Food & Civil Supplies, Punjab, encouraged the participants and organisers. He mentioned the importance of tradition and culture in the state and country. Supporting the cause he announced a grant of Rs 21 lac towards Kila Raipur Sports Festival.
The MRF Tractor tyre rolling event, a brand new event had its first winner in Mohd Murshid, who took home the top honors and a MRF tyre.
MRF sponsored tractor race, had the audience wondering if they were witnessing a super fast car race, such was the speed and skill of the drivers, that stadium stood to its heels to applaud. The winner took away top honours and Rs 17500 worth tractor tyre.
Another event, which was started to give the hard working Palledars (the laborers who work at grain markets and godowns) to show their amazing talent of loading and unloading trolleys, has become one of the main event of these games. In the final of the Tractors Trolley Loading and Unloading competition, the team from Sangrur Team Jagga Singh beat FCI Kila Raipur in a tense final.
The Grewal Sports Association also gives an opportunity to the differently abled athletes to shine. In the 100 meters race for physically disabled saw roaring support for the participants. Sukha from Kila Raipur finished the race ahead of Kala form Sangrur and Pramod Kumar of Haibowal.
In Hockey Jharkhad academy defeated Haryana eleven four goals to one (4:1), to lift the Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup.
In High Jump Final for Men Gurdip Singh Bhatinda clocked 1.95 M to leave Lovepreet Singh Patiala (1.90 M) and Sewak Singh from Punjab Police (1.85 M) behind
In the High Jump Final for Women Amarbir Kaur of Amritsar jumped 1.55 M, to beat Sandeep Kaur (1.50 M) and Manpreet Kaur (1.45 M) both from Sangrur .
In Sprints 200 meters Men Neeraj got the better of Narinder Singh from Patiala and Manish from Lukhnow even as Shruti Singh from UP kept her super performance for the 3rd day beating Sukhvinder Kaur (Jallandhar) and Manpreet Kaur (Patiala) in the womend 200 meter
800 meters final Women saw Sugandha Gujjar of Agra breasting the tape beating Manju Kumari of Punjabi University and Anupam of Patiala. In the Mens 800 meter Manjit Singh Chahal of Haryana finished in the top position leading the race from the beginning to beat Vijay Singh and Nikhil Arora both form Patiala .
The 70 to 80 year old gentlemen, not t obe left behind had a tought fight in the 100 meter race where Ajit Singh Randhawa from Amritsar finished number 1, closely followed by Chhaju Ram from Village Dhanola and Nachatar Singh of Village Manji Kot.
