Chandigarh, September 10, 2015: In a bid to boost ‘Organic Farming’ in a big way, the Centre Government has launched a new programme, Prampragat Krishi Vikas Yojna (PKVY).
An official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that allocation of Rs.5.66 Crore has provided under this newly unique programme. The farmers would be educated and motivated to adopt organic farming that would reduce the ill effects of excessive use of chemicals on the state’s agriculture produce on one hand and help the state in soil conservation on the other. He said that promotion of commercial organic production through certified organic farming. The produce will be pesticide residue free and will contribute to improve the health of consumer. It will also raise farmer’s income and create potential market for traders.
He said that organic agriculture is a production of agriculture products free from chemicals and pesticides residues by adopting eco-friendly low cost technologies (PKVY) as an elaborated component of National Mission of sustainable Agriculture (NMSA). Under PKVY organic farming is provided through adoption of organic village by cluster approach and PGS certification. The Implementing agency is Punjab Agro Industries Crporation (PAIC). The centre Government has approved Rs 107.97 lacs for this programme out of Rs 353.37 lacs. The G.O.I has released first installment of Rs. 40.49 lacs (75%) of its share in the state account. PAIC has initiated the implementation of PKVY.
