GOVERNMENT OFFERS SPECIAL CHANCE TO SC/OBC STUDENTS FOR POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP

LUDHIANA, January 20, 2018: The Punjab Government has decided to offer a special opportunity for students belonging to the Schedule Caste (SC) and Other Backward Class (OBC) to apply for the post-matric scholarship scheme 2017-18 by applying online on Dr.Ambedkar Scholarship Portal from January 22 to 25.

Deputy Commissioner Mr. Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that this chance is being provided to those students who had failed to get themselves registered online on the portal of the welfare department of State Government. He added that portal has been opened again for all the parties that include students, educational institutions, sanctioning authorities and line department.

As per the government’s order, website would open from January 22 to 26 for the students and for educational institutions, the portal would function from January 26 to 29. Meanwhile for the sanctioning authority, it would work from January 30 to February 2 and in the last, line department would be able to operate from February 3 to 6.

The eligible students should have to upload the scanned copy of admit or registration card issued by Board/University for current academic year or scanned copy of result of semester, along with attendance sheet attested by the head of concerned institution. He added that the terms and conditions of the scheme will remain same as earlier and MBBS and BDS students were not eligible to apply for the scheme.

The chance has been given after the reports that many candidates had failed to get themselves registered for the scholarship scheme on the web-portal of the Punjab government due to the mismatch of the particulars of their respective Aadhaar and other documents.

He added that the objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the reserved category students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education.

Meanwhile, District Welfare Officer Bathinda Sardool Singh Sidhu said that the special chance has been given by the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC), Punjab for the post matric scholarship schemes sponsored by the Government of India being offered under Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal.
