Government of India issues guidelines for Independence Day celebrations

Chandigarh, August 8, 2013: The Government of India has issued guidelines for the Independence Day celebrations at the National capital, New Delhi as well as the state headquarters.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the government said that the main function would be held at Red Fort Delhi consisting of the presentation of a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister, unfurling of the National Flag followed by the National Anthem and firing of 21 gun salute, speech by the Prime Minister. The school children and NCC Cadets would sing the National Anthem and finally the tri-colored balloons would be released.

Adding further, he said that alike programmes would be held in every state headquarters across the country where the chief ministers of their respective states would unfurl the National Flag after 9 a.m.as per the laid down norms. Similar functions would be held in other parts of the state, he added.

The Punjab government has also directed the deputy commissioners of all the districts to ensure the Independence Day celebrations strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of India. Rural sports particularly in rural areas, P.T. display or display of any other skills by the college and school students, planting of trees, inter-school and inter-college debates, community participation, launching of any important scheme of rural development, distribution of prizes/certificates/medals for work in the fields of national integration, small savings, afforestation, family planning or any other aspect of rural development could be included as a part of the celebrations, he added.
