Jalandhar, July 24, 2015: Besides keeping their demands from Government, the I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University’s Mulazim Front has alleged that Punjab Government has broken its promise of providing Rs. 2 crores annually and has not fulfilled its responsibility. Government has acted as a stranger to the University as it is providing funds to other state Universities on time.
It is shameful that instead of keeping its promise, Government has kept its eye over University’s corpus fund and has secretly transferred Rs. 75 crores, said Kamlesh Kumar, President of Mulazim Front. He further said, “Punjab Government has ignored University for its personal benefits. University was promised a grant of Rs. 2 crores annually, by the state government, at the commencement of the act as per section 21 (2), for meeting its recurring expenditure. But, as it is said that promises are meant to be broken, so Government has implemented the same to our University. Since its inception, a grant of worth Rs. 70 lakhs has been given to our University and that too in the year 1997. Gone that year, Government didn’t lend its ear to the University.”
Kumar claimed, “The strange thing is that Punjab Government is regularly giving grants to other state Universities. As per the information collected, average of Rs. 36 crores to GNDU; Rs. 48 crores to Punjabi University Patiala; more than Rs. 100 crores to PAU Ludhiana and Punjab University Chandigarh is getting double grants from Center as well as state Government annually.”
Vice-President Yadwinder Singh further said, “Making the internal ambience little positive, the employees of IKG-PTU recited the path of Sukhmani Sahib, followed by langar. The strike will be continued till the demands are not met.”
