Ludhiana, October 23, 2018: In the second phase of the International level Global Kabbadi League 2018, being conducted in Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Ajitgarh (Mohali) in Punjab, matches will be played at hockey stadium of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana from October 24 to 29.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu will be the chief guest at the inaugural function.
While addressing the press conference in this regard, Chairman-cum-Lok Sabha member of the Managing Committee Ravneet Singh Bittu said that this Kabbadi league was being organized by the Punjab Government under the mission 'Tandrust Punjab' for motivate the youth to shun path of drug addiction and start participating in sport activities.
Six Kabaddi teams from all over the world are participating. Teams include Singh Warriors Punjab, Haryana Lions, Black Panthers, Delhi Tigers, Maple Leafs and California Eagles.
He said that during the league, 2 matches each would be played on October 24, 25, 26and 29. While 3 matches each would be played on October 27 and 28. Matches will start at 5 pm daily. The matched would be played in floodlights. The inaugural match would be played between Singh Warriors Punjab and Maple Leaf Canada teams, while the second match would be played between California Eagle and Delhi Tigers. A total of 14 competitions would be held in Ludhiana.
He said that the final round of this league would be played in Ajitgarh (Mohali). The winners of this league would be honored with a prize money of Rs 1 crore, Rs 50 lakh for the first runner-up and Rs 25 lakh for the second runner-up.
He said that the aim of this league was that 70 per cent of new talent is being given the opportunity to play so that such youth could perform at international level. Two players of a team would have to undergo dope test on daily basis.
Bittu said that the finals of this league would be held in Mohali and the team standing first would get a cash award of Rs 1 crore, team standing second would get Rs 50 lakh and team standing third would get Rs 25 lakh. He said that 70 percent players in this league are new players and dope test is being done daily.
He informed that to promote sports amongst the youth, lucky draw for five mobile phones would be organised daily and a motorcycle would be given to winner of Lucy draw on final day. He informed that the coupons for lucky draw would be provided to the public at the entry gate and the lucky draw would be held at the end of matches everyday. He said that these coupons can be used for lucky draw of motorcycle as well.
On this occasion, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana Balkar Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Iqbal Singh Sandhu, the organiers of the league including, Amarjit Singh Tut, Yogesh Chhabra, Ranbir Singh Tut, legal adviser Advocate Harpreet Singh Sandhu, Gurdev Singh Lapar and Gurpreet Singh Gogi (both District President of Congress) and a large number of sports lovers were present.
During the inaugural function at Ludhiana on October 24, 2018, Punjabi singer Parmish Verma would enthral the audience from 4:15 pm onwards. The entry for the matches would be free on all days.
