Talwandi Sabo, June 15, 2016: Three students (Parminder Singh, Jarmanjeet Singh and Parminder Singh Maluka) of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo(Bathinda), Punjab, have been declared winners for JRFs of ICAR (Junior Research Fellowships of Indian Council of Agricultural Research), New Delhi. Among these students Parminder Singh, topped in the list of successful candidates from Punjab, Haryana and H.P.
The students will pursue Master’s Programs in their respective disciplines at State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), Deemed Universities, Central Agricultural Universities having faculty of agriculture and other Indian universities/ institutes funded by the ICAR, New Delhi. During the course of two years studies each student will receive Rs. 8,640/- per month, with contingency grant of Rs. 6,000/ -per year.
This healthy news of the three shinny students has been welcomed by the staff, administration and management of Guru Kashi University. Though the university is very young by age, but it is on the path of attaining excellence in agriculture education and research.
Two batches of graduates have already passed out their degree programs in agriculture. The first batch of 2014-15 has secured employment and is well placed. The 33 students of the current batch of this university have been selected for placement in IFFCO communications. After interviewing the candidates, Sh. A.K Gupta, General Manager IFFCO, remarked that the GKU students impressed us, the most, with their intelligence and the best practical training they got.
The University College of agriculture (UCoA), is well equipped with excellent infrastructure and training facilities. Imparting proper guidance through highly qualified and life time experienced staff, having national and international exposure, is the back bone of this success.
The Vice Chancellor, Dr N.S. Malhi, has expressed happiness and appreciated hard work of the winner students of the university and thanked faulty of UCoA for bringing laurels to GKU. Hon’ble Chancellor of the university, Dr J.S. Dhaliwal lauded the contributions of the agriculture faculty.
The Chairman, GKU, S. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu encouraged the faculty and opined that research and practical facility further improve in the university. S. Sukhraj Singh, M.D., congratulated the students for these prestigious fellowship awards of ICAR. Dr A. S. Sidhu, the Dean of UCoA, while congratulating the winner students, appreciated role of the faculty and prevailed upon other students to follow the suit in the times to come.
