Ludhiana, February 16, 2018: GHG Khalsa Colleges, Gurusar Sadhar, organised its 67th Annual Athletics Meet here today. The mega event was a joint venture of the three sister institutes - GHG Khalsa College, GHG Khalsa College of Education and GHG Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Gurusar Sadhar.
Mrs Lalita Sharma, Regional Director, Sports Authority of India was the chief guest on the occasion. The athletics meet began with the flag hoisting ceremony. A graceful and rhythmic march past, synchronising with the band was performed by the sportspersons and students of the three colleges. The chief guest took the salute of the march past.
Various track and field events including races, shot puts, high jumps, athletics, long jump, high jump, potato spoon race, three-legged race, sack race, tug of war, etc were organised during the sports meet. The best athlete declared from pharmacy college Rajdeep Singh (D. Pharmacy) (boys) and Kamalpreet Kaur (D. Pharmacy) (girls).
Dr S.S. Deol, principal, GHG Khalsa College, gave a brief account of the sports and academic achievements of the three institutes.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Lalita Sharma congratulated Manjit Singh Gill, president of the managing committee, for following the footsteps of his father, Bakhtawar Singh Gill, and leading the institutes in the same spirit towards excellence in all the fields. Mrs Sharma expressed his concern about how to make balance between sports and study. Sports are important part of student life. Sports make us physically healthy as well as teach us discipline, team work, leadership and punctuality and keep youngsters away from bad habits She also advised students to elect pathway of sports to achieve destination in academics and appealed to the young generation to participate in games beside waste their time in cafeteria and gossips. She also said that children in sports are equally good in academics.
A brief cultural programme, including items of bhangra, malwai giddha enthralled the audience.
