GADVASU conducts training program on Fish Farming

Ludhiana, October 5, 2016: Fish farming is a lucrative enterprise for diversification for the farming community, with special reference to higher earnings per unit land holding and requirement of less labour as compared to other agriculture as well as livestock farming systems. College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) conducts training programme on fish farming on regular basis for developing technical skills in various stakeholders interested in adopting fish farming for livelihood/income generation and updating technological skills in fish farmers.

In this series a 5 day training programme on Fish farming was conducted at College of Fisheries and farmers, unemployed youth as well as entrepreneurs from non-farming community from Ludhiana, Mansa, Jalandhar, Bathinda and Ferozepur attended the said training programme.

A complete package of technological inputs for scientific farming of different species like carps, catfishes, prawns/shrimps, ornamental fish and Azolla was provided to the trainees through practical demonstrations and hand on training sessions at the instructional cum demonstration farm of the College.

While addressing the participants, Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries advocated adopting integrated farming systems, with fish farming as an integral part for maximum utilization of farm wastes through recycling into fish ponds as feed and fertilizers. She further added that every farmer shall formulate an integrated farming plan for his land holding for sustainable production and earnings, where fish farming is the only enterprise which can be practically integrated with both agriculture and other livestock farming system.
