Functioning of Local Bodies departments to be put online

Chandigarh, August 26, 2012: Punjab is all set to provide 90 essential Local Bodies services to the people under one roof by putting the whole functioning of Local Bodies Department online as the Punjab Government has given its nod to implement e-governance programme.

Disclosing this here today, Bhagat Chunni Lal, Local Bodies Minister, Punjab said that after realising the grand success of Suwidha Kendras, Fard Kendras and Police Sanjh Kendras, now the Punjab Government has in principal decided to provide all essential services of local bodies department through such state-of-the-art hi-tech centers for facilitation of common masses. He said that as per the e-governance programme for Local Bodies Department besides state headquarter the functioning of all Regional Deputy Director Offices, Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats would be online.

Stating that it would prove a revolutionary and pro-urban population initiative after independence, Bhagat said that Punjab Government has fixed a time period to provide civic services to the people. He said that the 9 Municipal Corporation, 133 Municipal Councils and other offices of local bodies department would provide 90 essential civil services under one roof through single window system. He said that this system would also eliminate the alleged red-tapism, unnecessary harassment of common masses besides saving time and energy of them.

Explaining about the services to be covered under this e-governance program, Bhagat said that now the services regarding birth and death certificates, building maps, property taxes, sewerage and water supply connection, building construction approval, health and sanitation services, fire brigade and drinking water services, rent lease, advertisement hoardings, Right to Information Act, Right to Service Act, complaints and their redressal, permission for usage of public places for commercial accesses, construction of parks, parking sites, approvals from tehbazari branch, billboards and permission for organising public functions on lands belonging to MCs etc would be provided in state-of-the-art complexes at Municipal Corporations headquarters and Municipal Council offices. He said that SAD-BJP government was committed to provide all essential services hassle-free and it was under consideration of Local Bodies department to put all services of department on e-governance project.  

Bhagat said that the implementation of e-governance project was under progress on war footing and with the completion of this ambitious plan all the offices of regional deputy director, municipal corporation and municipal councils would be interconnected with the headquarter of department. He said that the necessary directions to complete the project within given time frame have been issued to the concerned authorities for the facilitation of general public.
