Chandigarh, September 13, 2012: The census of the livestock in Punjab would commence on September 15. For this project Rs.7.29 crore would be spent. This census would be completed till October 15.
It was disclosed by Gulzar Singh Ranike, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development after a meeting with senior officers of the department. He said that arrangements for the 19thlivestock census have been completed. He further said that for this task 5000 Veterinary Inspector, AIs and Counting Officer have been deputed besides 800 supervisors have also been pushed into this census work.
Ranike appealed the people of the state to coordinate with the government in this endeavor, so that rational policies for the development of dairy farming and welfare schemes for the livestock could be framed. He further said that with exact data of population of livestock in Punjab, such welfare schemes for the livestock could be implemented in right spirit.
Animal Husbandry Minister warned the officers and official of department against any laxity in the census process. He said that negligent officers would have to face the music.
