Fourth day of one week faculty development program at KMV

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organized a One Week Faculty Development Program on Capacity Building and Enhancement in Higher Education under DBT Star College Scheme. 
The inaugural session of the fourth day was addressed by Major General G.G. Dwivedi, Professor, Department of West Asian Studies and North African Studies, Aligarh Muslim University. The topic of his talk was ''Reimagining Academic Leadership: Redefining the Role of a Teacher''. In his inspiring and brilliant talk, he emphasized that how a teacher should be able to guide and motivate his students and should play the role of a 'Leader' in the students' life. A leader is the one who inspire ordinary people to achieve extraordinary. He also enlisted the role of teacher as a transformer, trail blazer & shaper of Nation's destiny. He concluded his session by discussing two case studies "Mountains and Mole Hills" and ''Nothing is Everlasting'' with the participants. The second session of the day was addressed by                           Dr. A.S. Ahluwalia, Professor, Department of Botany, Punjab University, Chandigarh. The topic of his talk was ''Scientific Research and Quality Education: Current Scenario in the Face of New Education Policy (NEP) 2019. Addressing the participants, he gave the data about Global Literacy Rate. He also enlightened everyone about the previous Education Policy. He discussed about the current problems of higher education with the teachers. He made everyone aware about the slogan of the policy which is 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas'. The talk was concluded by enlisting the qualities of academicians and skills of a good researcher. The third session of the day was delivered by Mrs Pallavi Khanna, Clinical Psychologist, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. The topic of her talk was Quest for Happiness. During the talk, she started her lecture by explaining that how we can maintain work-life balance. She explained that getting healthy means getting better at feelings. She asked to understand and deal with your feelings to reduce stress. To maintain a balance between work and life one should stop running after myths and evaluate things correctly. One can only increase her happiness by gratitude. She gave a tip that in order to stay happy, we should  have a purpose of life, good relationships, conflict resolution and live in present.  The last session of the day was conducted by Dr Amit Kauts, Dean, Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. In his session, Dr Kauts explained the concept of Flipped Learning. He started his lecture by asking from the participants that what is the need for Faculty Development Programmes. He said, nowadays not only degrees are required, but competencies for teaching-learning is also very important. He said in addition to teaching, a teacher needs to groom her student in such a way that they become employable. Respecting your seniors, dealing positively with your juniors; such kind of competencies are developed during Faculty Development Programmes. Moreover, teachers basically need to think that why he/she is teaching a subject. Employability should also be the main objective of today's education. 
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the Faculty Development Program will prove to be an enlightening experience for all the faculty members as it gives them an opportunity to interact with renowned academicians. She further maintained that these type of sessions will open new arenas for the teachers to explore and hence, will give them new challenges & opportunities to explore more and more about their respective fields.
