Amritsar, November 17, 2015: A "Four-Week Orientation Programme" was inaugurated at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 30 University and College teachers pertaining to diverse disciplines from across the length and breadth of the country are participating.
Prof. Surabhi Banerjee, former Vice-Chancellor, Netaji Subhas State Open University, Kolkata, West Bengal graced the occassion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Banerjee in her inaugural address highlighted the aims and objectives of such Programmes. She was of the view that these courses open new vistas for the participants much beyond the one's own particular domain. The enhancement of one's existing knowledge, honing of pedagogical skills, introduction followed by deliberations on the new concepts in the area of higher education are the other primary motives of these courses, she continued. New concepts like 'holistic education', 'flexible education', 'inclusive education' etc. are the talk of the town in the echelons of higher education in the country at present, she elaborated. These concepts need to be deliberated with all the stakeholders, beginning from the teaching fraternity, who are directly associated with the ground realities, she emphasized. She concluded her address by remarking that the teaching-learning must not be confined to the four walls of the classroom only.
