Fortis Hospital Organises Bike Ride with NH4 for Creating Awareness about Organ Donation in Bangalore

Bangalore, November 27, 2016: Fortis Hospital Cunningham Road in association with NH4 Motorheads, a leading adventure and travel gear company has organized a bike ride to create awareness on organ donation. The bike ride started from the Cunningham Road at 7 am today and covered 4KM distance. It ended at Cunningham road after going through Vikasa Soudha and other prominent areas in the route. More than 30 bike riders volunteered and participated in the ride. It was flagged off by Dr. Vivek Jawali, Chairman, Department of Cardio Vascular Sciences & Chairman, Medical Advisory Council, Fortis Hospitals Karnataka.

Fortis has pioneered the cause as two of its hospitals run the largest heart transplant program in the country. Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai has performed 122 heart transplants which is maximum for any healthcare provider in Asia. Fortis Hospital at Mulund, Mumbai performed a record 35 heart transplants in a span of little over a year. Since 2012, when the FORT program was initiated, 42 organ donors from 10 Fortis hospital across the country have already donated a total of 128 organs including 17 hearts, 33 livers, 76 kidneys, 1 lung and 1 pancreas. In addition, 110 pairs of eyes have been donated.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Vivek Jawali said, “Fortis Healthcare has saved many lives through organ transplant and we understand the need of organ donation. Therefore we have always been on the forefront of creating awareness about organ donation. But creating awareness about organ donation is not only governments’ or healthcare sectors’ responsibility. It calls for a wider collaboration from all stakeholders of our social diaspora as we need to bring the pragmatic shift in the mindset of people towards organ donation. We are committed in our endeavor to bring a social and demographical inclusion for this cause and this bike ride in partnership with NH4 Motorheads is a testimony of same.”
