Fortis Hospital Ludhiana celebrates World Blood Donor Day

Ludhiana, June 14, 2016: Blood bank at Fortis Hospital Ludhiana celebrated World Blood Donor Day on Tuesday by Organising an internal blood donation camp for employees and voluntary donors. The camp started with cake cutting ceremony by the Facility Director, Mr.Vivan Singh Gill, in presence of Dr.Harpreet Brar, Head Administration, Dr.Ankush Mehta, Medical Superintendent and Dr.Heenakshi Sharma, Blood Bank In- charge, Fortis Ludhiana.
On the occasion, Dr.Heenakshi discussed the theme of the 2016 World Blood Donor Day, 14 June campaign which is "Blood connects us all". The objectives of World Donor Day were also discussed, i.e.:
To thank blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood and highlight the theme of blood connecting us all.
create wider public awareness of the need for regular blood donation, and inspire those who have not yet donated blood to start donating;
To persuade countries to show appreciation to regular, voluntary, unpaid donors and commit to self-sufficiency in blood supply
The voluntary donors were felicitated with certificates and gifts. 43 units of blood were collected during the camp.
Also, the day was celebrated by conducting a CME on LEUCOREDUCTION in clinical practice by deptt. Of Transfusion Medicine. Blood Bank, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana has become the second blood bank in Ludhiana to introduce the latest techniques in blood banking, Leucoreduction and Nucleic Acid Testing(NAT) since April 2016.
