Ferozepur, July 3, 2017, 2017: A case has been registered against state BJP President (Kisan Morcha) and two time MLA from Ferozepur (Urban) constituency Sukhpal Singh Nannu alongwith five others for alleged interference and obstruction in police functioning and allegedly instigating people to set police station on fire.
It is pertinent to mention here that on June 1, Sukhpal Singh Nannu along with his supporters had descended at the police station and handcuffed himself in protest against the arrest of a party worker. Nannu had alleged that the police officials were harassing his party workers on behest of leaders from ruling regime to settle political scores.
The case has been lodged following the complaint submitted by Satvinder Singh, SHO, Ferozepur Sadar police station under Sections 143, 186, 353, 506 of the IPC. In his complaint, SHO has levelled serious allegations against Nannu including instigating people to set ablaze the police station on fire. It is pertinent to mention here that during that incident, Nannu also had a heated argument with the SHO.
When contacted, Nannu denied all such allegations and said that the case has been lodged due to political rivalry. “I don’t care about such cases. I have been fighting for the truth and I will always. If I was wrong why did not police arrest me on the spot or on the same day. It is apparent that the police are working under political influence. I will bring this matter into the notice of BJP high command”, said Nannu.
It is pertinent to mention here that in 2013 also, Nannu had handcuffed himself in Cantonment police station and had sat on a dharna against his own partymen.
On May 17 this year, the police had booked Prem Rani, BJP MC from ward number 22 along with her husband and sons on the charges of opening fire on a Congress worker. Nannu while protesting the police move had said that first the police booked the BJP MC and her family members for no reason and later the police have arrested another BJP worker Kuldeep Singh who has nothing to do with the incident.
Supporting Kuldeep, Nannu had claimed that Kuldeep worked as a labourer and does not possess any pistol or arms license.
Later, Kamal Sharma, former Punjab BJP chief had also reached the police station to support the BJP workers. The BJP workers also held a dharna outside the police station which was eventually lifted after assurance from SP(H) to enquire into the incident.
