FLAG MARCH CARRIED OUT UNDER SVEEP ACTIVITIES

Ludhiana, January 18, 2017: In the Ludhiana West constituency, various awareness activities were organised under the SVEEP campaign in the vulnerable area of Jawahar Nagar.
Flag march, which was conducted as a joint venture of the police and the para-miliitary forces, was led by ACP (West) Sh. Varinderjit and Returning officer for 064 Ludhaina (West)-cum-Deputy Director Urban Local Bodies, Ludhiana, Dr. Poonam Preet Kaur. The Flag March began from Midha chowk, progressed through the market and onwards along the railway line to the bus stand area and culminated into the point from where it began. It had people gathering around the market places and along the road to see the march and they participated in it enthusiastically.
Street awareness camps were organised in the areas around Jawahar Nagar at bus stand and at Midha Chowk before the Flag March began. The officials interacted with the people gathered at the market and at the bus stand where they were made aware of their Right to Vote.
In the awareness gatherings, people were told about the polling date i.e 4/02/2017 and where to access their polling booths. They were also enlightened about the efforts being made by the District Administration to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.ACP (West) guided the gatherings about arrangements regarding security in place and assured people of the constant support and receptiveness of Police. He also encouraged people to extend full support and inform police about miscreants without any element of fear.
Returning officer for 064 Ludhiana West, Dr. Poonam Preet made people aware of special arrangements on the poll day. For eg: separate toilets and separate queues for male and female. Separate queues, pick –up facility and medical facility will be provided to persons with disabilities. Scouts too have been appointed to help them. She told them about various apps and websites launched for the help of the voter and regarding the election process.
People also discussed their problems and queries and doubts were cleared. They pledged for ethical voting and ensured full participation in further events to be organised in the area.
