Dharamshala, May 10, 2019: “It is matter of pride to share that the first Endoscopic stent placement in Oesophagus(food pipe) was successfully carried out on 09.05.2019 at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda on a patient of Cancer of the food pipe,”said Dr. Bhanu Awasthi, Principal of the institute. He informed this correspondent that the a patient from District Kangra was unable to eat for about a month, and had developed a narrowing of food pipe and was unable to eat or swallow food. Dr Awasthi said,”In earlier times the patient would have to undergo treatment for this disease at some advanced medical centre. However, the procedure was carried out by the Endoscopy team of Dr. RP Govt. medical College comprising of Gastroenterologist Dr Swatanter Gupta, Dr Rajesh Sharma, Professor in department of Medicine, Sister Indu and Technician Sanjeev along with help from Ajay, Sahil and Shyam.” Prof Awasthi said that the procedure carried out is a palliative procedure with the primary aim of providing comfort to the patient to the patient suffering of life threatening illness. He further added that patient’s son, was thankful to Dr. RPGMC Tanda hospital for the services rendered by them.
