Field Day on wheat variety PBW 660 for Kandi Region

Ludhiana, April 13, 2015: A field day on cultivation of rainfed wheat variety PBW 660 was organised on 9.04.2015 at village Jhandia Klan by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar. Dr. R. S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana was the chief guest of the occasion and Dr. Jaswant Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ropar was the guest of honour. More than 100 progressive farmers of the adjoining area participated in the field day.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sidhu, in his address, elaborated the importance of wheat variety PBW 660 for the kandi region. He said, this variety possesses resistance to yellow rust, matures in 162 days, yields 17.1 q/acre and is known for excellent chapatti making qualities. He also advised the farmers to sow recommended varieties of rice and maize.

In his address, Dr. Jaswant Singh asked the farmers to get the soil tested from working soil laboratories of the district to avoid indiscriminate use of fertilizers. Besides, he introduced various programmes initiated by the department for the benefit of farmers.

Dr. Harjinder Singh, Deputy Director Training, KVK, Ropar conducted the field visit where the performance of PBW 660 was shared among the farmers. Besides, he also guided the farmers about soil and water conservation techniques. In the end, Gian Chand Sarpanch proposed the vote of thanks.
