FIELD DAY ON 'PAU FRUIT FLY TRAP'

Ludhiana/Fatehgarh Sahib, August 31, 2016: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Fatehgarh Sahib organized Field Day at village Shamsher Nagar on 30.08.2016 in the orchard of S. Gagandeep Singh on “PAU Fruit Fly Trap” under the extension project “Technology transfer for PAU Fruit Fly Traps among fruit growers of Fatehgarh Sahib through on farm demonstrations”. This project was sanctioned by NABARD, Government of India in March 2015. Mrs Pratbha Sharma , AGM, NABARD was the Chief Guest of this event. This occasion was also graced by Dr. Sandeep Singh (Astt Entomologist) , PAU Ludhiana, Sh Sanjeev Sharma DDM NABARD, S. Pritpal Singh LDM, Lead Bank and Dr Sandeep Singh Grewal, HDO, Fatehgarh Sahib.
Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director, KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib welcomed the farmers of the village and appraised about the various activities carried out by KVK. He further added that this technology is not only economically beneficial but also eco-friendly. Dr. Sandeep Singh (Astt Entomologist) and Co-PI of this project, Dept of Fruit Science PAU, Ludhiana explained about the detailed working of “PAU Fruit Fly Trap”. He also added that it would help the farmers in reducing the cost of cultivation by reducing the number of insecticidal sprays. Dr Arvind Preet kaur, Astt. Prof. (Horticulture) and Co-PI of this project, emphasized that “PAU Fruit Fly Trap” technology is capable of decreasing fruit flies population. She gave the detailed description on demonstration of technology in the entire district. Dr Sandeep Singh Grewal, HDO, Fatehgarh Sahib discussed about the efficient working of the technology and demanded for the further extension of project. S. Pritpal Singh, LDM, Lead Bank elaborated about the different loan facilities provided by the bank. Sh Sanjeev Sharma DDM NABARD gave the detailed functioning of project till date. Mrs. Reet Verma A.P (P.P) advocated the farmers about the insect and pest management in paddy and vegetable crops. Mrs. Maninder Kaur A.P (Agron) appraised the farmers regarding the Resource conservation technologies and the role of seed treatment in enhancing their profitability. Mrs Pratbha Sharma, AGM, NABARD appreciated the efforts made by the KVK in promoting “PAU Fruit Fly Trap” technology and motivated the farmers to adopt this technique on large scale. On the basis of performance of project, she further gave the assurance for the extension of the project for further one year.

In this occasion around 90 farmers participated and later on they also visited S. Gagandeep Singh’s orchard where PAU Fruit Fly Traps implemented to get their feedback. Dr. APS Mann (Fruit Grower) gave vote of thanks.
