FIELD DAY ON CROP DIVERSIFICATION: PULSE CROP (GRAM)

Ludhiana, March 10, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib under the guidance of Punjab Agriculture University and ICAR- ATARI, Ludhiana carried out Fount-line demonstration on 50 acres of gram in various clusters of the district in this season under cluster FLD approach. This crop is grown for self-sufficiency, to improve the soil fertility and increasing the profitability of the farmer. To motivate the farmer to grow the pulse crop a field day was organized on gram cultivation in the village Mehmadpur of district Fatehgarh Sahib on 10.03.2017 for show casing the performance of demonstration and further promotion of gram cultivation in these villages. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (Trg), KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib presided over the function. A team of the scientist from the KVK also participated in this programme. Dr. Manisha Bhatia, AP (Home Science) welcomed the experts and the farmers of the nearby villages. She gave brief information about different activities of KVK. Dr. Reet Verma AP (Plant Protection) stressed upon the importance of proper management of yellow rust disease and aphid in wheat. Dr. Ajay Singh, AP (Animal Science) discussed about importance of Hey and Silage making. He also guided the farmers about various dairy management practices. Dr. Arvindpreet Kaur, AP (Horticulture) suggested the farmer to plan nutritional garden at home. She gave detail information about management of fruit plants. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal discussed with the farmers about these Front-line demonstrations and important agronomic practices in seed production of Barseem and wheat. He also guided the farmers about cultivation practices of summer Moong. Dr. Manisha Bhatia also guided about the value addition in pulses. KVK also put the exhibition about various latest techniques in sale of seed of fodder Maize, Bajra and vegetables seed kits for the benefits of the farmers. In the end S. Ram Singh, on whose field the field day was conducted thank all the experts and farmer for listening attentively.
