FICO organized a Session on Safety Aspects in Industries

Ludhiana, June 20, 2019: Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organization, popularly known as FICO, organized a Session on” Safety Aspects in Industries” presented by the expert Shri S.B.Singh of M/s Taaran Industries at FICO Head Office B-XXI 1856 Jaimal Road, Janta Nagar Ludhiana. More than 100 FICO members have attended the session.

Shri S.B.Singh, key note speaker addressed the members present on the occasion and said that we should adapt the habitual safety measures inside factory premises, while working on a machine, one should never use gloves, never use loose clothing, as these minor things if got stuck in a machine, causes huge damages. Every machine should have a fire extinguisher installed approachably nearby it. There should be separate, entry exit points along with an emergency exit point in a factory premises, he further shared an example of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, where due to non-existence of emergency evacuation plan, in panic situation, most of the employees were unable to get out, and had to lose their lives. He further said that FIRE not only causes financial & structural damages but also causes environmental loss, Preventive measures on fire can provides environmental as well as financial safety also. He also said that the accidents can happen anytime, anywhere either with employee or with employer, so we all must adapt safety & security measure so as to minimize the chances of an accident. We should check the boilers installed in the factory premises twice a year, likewise the transformers should also be inspected, there should be fire extinguishers installed near the gas stoves in our kitchens also either commercial or domestic. He further said that schedules are important, but safety comes first.

Mr. Jaswinder Singh Bhogal Head FICO Tractor’s Division, spoke on the occasion, and highlighted the importance of emergency assembly point in a factory, he shared many instances where in case of fire, the labourers & workers doesnot even not where to go and assemble. He further said there is a dire need for industrialists to get their fire audit, where the working of their fire fighting equipments like fire extinguishers be audited, so that in case of emergency, such equipments works fine to a rescue. He added that we need to pick and find our vulnerable points in factory, terminals of generators, hot water pipes, electric wiring terminals, etc should be checked periodically and maintained, so that the incidence could be prevented even before it happens.

Mr. Ajit Lakra Head FICO Textile Division, shared a recent example where, in a factory, in case of fire, when the emergency water pipes are bought to functioning it was found that it had multiple leakages, due to which it could not generate the mandatory pressure to rescue the fire, moreover he said, it has been seen that if any incidence takes place in a textile or garment factory, it generally damaged the adjoining 3-4 factories also, so it is very necessary to your fire fighting equipments audited well in time.

S. Gurmeet Singh Kular President FICO, thanked Shri S. B. Singh for sharing his valuable observations & experiences on Industrial Safety. He said that today’s session was on learning by sharing, sharing by learning, and we all should get our fire fighting equipments audited, so that the fatal losses could be prevented.
