Ludhiana, July 2, 2019: FASC Faridkot is going to demonstrate Trichoderma on an area of 180 acres in four villages namely Khara, Rorikapura, Wada Daraka and Ajit Gill. Dr. Harinder Singh, Senior Extension Specialist (Agronomy) practically imparted the procedure of seedling treatment in the field of Gurmit Singh at village Rorikapura. He showed the different ways of seedling treatment available on the field. Ravi Singh (farmer) said this year Basmati Pusa 1121 will going to cover about 400 acres in the village out of total area of 4200 acres under paddy.
Dr.Harinder Singh said Trichoderma harzianum is a potent bio control agent recommend by Punjab Agricultural University against foot rot disease in Basmati rice. For treatment dip the seedling root for 6 hours @15 g/litre of water before transplanting. It is free living fungus which is common in soil and root ecosystems. It reduces growth, survival or infections caused by pathogens by different mechanism like competition , anti biosis. Mycoparasitism hyphal interaction and enzyme secretion. He also apprised the other benefits of Trichoderma such as increase in shoot and root length, solubilizing various insoluble forms of phosphates, increase dry matter production substantially and provide natural long term immunity to crops and soil. Farmers thanked the University for providing technological knowledge and inputs.
