Bangalore: A heart from private hospital, Bangalore was transported on 16th September, 2018 for transplant to a patient at Fortis Hospitals, Bannerghatta road. The heart was transferred via ambulance at 4.45 AM from the private hospital and the organs reached Fortis Hospitals in 8 minutes.
A potential organ alert was received by the team at Fortis Hospitals at 1 AM midnight. A team of harvesting doctors were sent to the hospital for assessment of the organ. Post preliminary assessment, the organ was harvested at 4.45 AM by Dr.Vivek Jawali, Chief Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, Chairman, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore and Dr. Priyank Bhatt, Cardiovascular and Throacic Surgeon, Fortis Hospitals.
The organ was harvested from a 42 year old female in Bangalore who had met with a road accident and was declared brain dead. Upon the family’s consent the heart were allocated to Fortis Hospitals.The recipient of the organ is a 39 year old farmer from Dharamapuri, Tamil Nadu who was diagnosed with dilated Cardiomyopathy.
