Chandigarh, April 24, 2015:
Panjab University (PU) NSS Unit yesterday launched the eye donation pledge and
awareness campaign at PU Campus. On this occasion, more than 100 NSS volunteers took a
pledge to donate their eyes after their demise.
The requisite forms were taken from Department of Ophthalmology, PGI Chandigarh for
donation of their eyes. Dr. Gaurav Gaur from Department of Social Work and Coordinator
NSS, PU Prof. Yograj motivated the NSS volunteers for the eye donation campaign. They
also shed light on the various myths and superstitions related to the eye and organ
donation. They further requested the volunteers to spread the message and make the eye
donation awareness campaign a mass movement so that patients waiting to cornea implants
can start a new life.
Besides that Director NSS Prof. Yograj Angrish, Dr. Pawan Kumar from UILS and Sandeep
Brar NSS volunteer also pledged to donate their bodies for medical research at PGIMER,
Chandigarh. They acted as role models for the NSS volunteers associated with PU to
initiate this noble cause.
NSS Campus Coordinator, Dr. Jatinder Grover, Dr. Harish and Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh
Programme Officers NSS, PU also pledged to donate their eyes. The eye donation campaign
would continue at war footing by the NSS volunteers. In the coming months the
documentaries films, lectures, street plays are planned to make the campaign productive
and successful. NSS volunteers will spread message through various units in colleges
