Extension lecture on "Conservation of Wetlands"
Jalandhar, March 7, 2019: An extension lecture was organized by P.G Department of Zoology under the aegis of Darwin Zoological Society on 1st March 2019 at Centenary lecture hall of DAV College Jalandhar. The speaker of the day was Dr.Anish Dua Professor in Department of Zoology GNDU Amritsar. The topic was ‘Conservation of wetlands’.
President of the society Prof.Punit Puri welcomed and introduced the guest speaker in the presence of Principal Dr.S.K.Arora Faculty of Zoology Department and UG and PG classes. The lecture was very Intresting and he told that Wetland conservation is aimed at protecting and preserving areas where water exists at or near the Earth's surface, such as swamps, marshes and bogs.
Wetlands cover at least six per cent of the Earth and have become a focal issue for conservation due to the ecosystem services they provide. More than three billion people, around half the world’s population, obtain their basic water needs from inland freshwater wetlands. The same number of people rely on rice as their staple food, a crop grown largely in natural and artificial wetlands.
The Lecture was attended by Dr. Deepak Wadhawan, Prof Pooja Sharma, Dr Renuka Malhotra, Prof Rishi, Dr. SS Rajpurohit, Dr Abhinay, Dr Kapila and Prof. Pankaj Bagga from non teaching staff Mr.Happy John Mr Abhishek Mr Chander and Mr Naveen were also present.
In the Last a token of gratitude was presented by Head of Department Mrs Karoona and a Potted Plant was presented along with a shawl to the chief guest Dr Dua, she also extended the Vote of thanks.
