Existence of non government aided colleges in 3 universities of Punjab in grave danger

Jalandhar, November 19, 2014: A meeting of the office-bearers of the Principals’ Association of three universities of the Punjab i.e Panjab University Chandigarh, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar and Punjabi University Patiala was held today at Doaba College Jalandhar to discuss the problems of non-release of Salary Grant in the Private Aided Colleges of the state covered under 95% grant-in-aid scheme. The salary grant has not been released by Punjab Government for last 18 months and the situation is really grim for these institutions who are providing affordable education to general masses at their door step and are facing immediate closer.

The problem was discussed in detail and decided that the matter be actively taken up with Punjab Government and the measures to get the grant released be explored. For this a six member co-ordination committee of the Principal Association with representative of all State Universities was constituted  and authorised to coordinate with Management Federation, Punjab and Chandigarh College Teacher Union, Non-Teaching Employees  Union of the colleges and other stakeholders for further appropriate action.

Arya Girls College, Jalandhar Cantt. – Member of Coordination Committee participated in the meeting.
