Ex-CM Dhumal’s younger son elected president to HPCA
Dharamshala, September 27, 2019: After 20 years of Anurag Thakur’s Presidentship of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), it has finally changed, but not so far from the single family control, as Anurag’s younger brother Arun Dhaumal has occupied this prestigious seat. Arun Dhumal son of ex-CM of the state PK Dhumal was declared elected as HPCA president unopposed by election observer, Manisha Nanda (retired IAS officer) in Dharamshala today. The eldest son of ex-CM Dhumal, Anurag Thakur (now Union MoS for Finance) was President HPCA since 2000 and he had to quit the post of HPCA president. So the dynasty and family rule has extended to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA). Arun Dhumal, Anurag Thakur’s younger brother and son of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, has taken over as the president of HPCA, a position enjoyed by the Union Minister for around 20 years. The other office-bearers declared elected today (all unopposed) for HPCA are Sumit Sharma (secretary), RP Singh (vice-president), Avineesh Parmar (treasurer) and Amitabh Sharma (joint-secretary) , whereas Chander Mehta and Vishal Sharma are the nominees to the BCCI. Related story: THE NEW HPCA BODY PRAISES ANURAG THAKUR Dharamshala, September 27, 2019: The newly elected HPCA president Arun Dhumal, who is the younger brother of Anurag Thakur (the ex-BCCI President), addressed media persons here today and said, “I am thankful to all past presidents of HPCA, who have contributed at their best in one way or the other, but we should be proud of the work done by Anurag Thakur for the state cricket. The name of Dharamshala is now known throughout the world because of the lovely cricket stadium built under the guidelines of Anuragji.” He said that we are all united to take HPCA to top level, and this unity has even shown in today’s elections where everyone was elected unopposed. He said that a resolution was passed today by the new body of HPCA to thank its ex-president Anurag Thakur for his commendable works done for Himachal cricket. Arun said that Anurag had the vision to bring the name of Himachal cricket to the top level. Anurag planned to have 70 sub-coaching centres in Himachal, so that youth of each and every corner of this hilly state can taste coaching of high grade, to show their talent to the country. He further said, “62 sites of these sub-centres have been cleared so far, and 22 such centres are already made operational, where 1200 children are being trained. We have appointed 42 coaches for these centres.” Arun said that his first aim shall be to start theses 70 centre.
