Every employee of Punjab swears to devote 100 hours per year for cleanliness

Chandigarh, October 2, 2014:  Chief Secretary Punjab Sarvesh Kaushal today administered the oath of cleanliness to all officers/officials working in Punjab Civil Secretariat and exhorted them to make cleanliness movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi as National Movement.
In a oath ceremony organised in Rajindra Park here today as a part of ‘Mission Swachh Bharat’, where all Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries , Administrative Secretaries other officers and officials collectively vowed to carry forward the task initiated by Mahatma Gandhi and make it a peoples ‘movement. They took the oath that every officer/official would remain vigilant about necessity of keeping cleanliness in surrounding areas and devote minimum 100 hours per year i.e. two hours per week in making the environment clean. They swore that they would neither litter nor let anyone litter in the public and private places and every citizen would realise his duty of maintaining cleanliness in his residence, locality, village and city to realise the dream of making country clean and litter free. They accepted the fact that the reason of cleanliness in developed countries was because their citizens don’t litter and don’t let others litter.
In an impressive e ceremony every officer/official vowed that they would carry this message of cleanliness to every village, every city of the country and motivate 100 other persons to become part of cleanliness mission. They were satisfied from this fact that this movement collectively initiated by every citizen of the country would be catalyst in making country clean and litter free. Earlier the employees of the Punjab Civil Secretariat in the morning cleaned their offices and made their collective efforts to make Punjab Civil Secretariat from rubbish and litter free.
In a separate function organised in the office of Information and Public Relations in sector 34 Ashwani Kumar, Director Information and Public Relations led the employees of the department in launching a cleanliness drive in the sub office of department. Later Ashwani Kumar administered the oath of cleanliness to all officers/officials working there.
Similarly oath taking functions were organised in all Punjab Government Offices and offices of Boards, Corporations, Public Sector Undertakings, Educational Institutes, Training Institutes where every employee swore by the oath of cleanliness.  Similar functions were organised in every village where sarpanches administered the oath of cleanliness to all panches and earlier villagers participated in a drive to make their villages clean. Such functions were also organised in every city and urban settlement of state where Mayor and Chairman of respective Municipal Corporation and Municipal Committees led the cleanliness drive in their respective cities.
