EVENT: Conference on spinal cord injuries held

Jalandhar, November 11, 2012: The Spinal Coe Injury Association, Jalandhar, organied a day long first  state conference at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall here.

As many as  65 affected by the spinal cord injuries gathered together, at Jalandhar known for medicity.

The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Priyank Bharti, giving a sum of Rs 15,000 for the treatment of injury-affected Kapil Saini, who was assaulted and thrown into a well by assailants few years ago.

It was a great experience of the 65 spinal cord injuries affected men and women had a get together for the first time on  a single platform from all over the Punjab State here, with a logo of the Spinal Cord Injury Association  can be read as "Can’t Walk... Let's fly".

Those affected by the spinal injuries could have a dialogue with the specialists from the Indian Spinal Injury Centre, Delhi and Safdarjung Hospital -Dr Nanoj Dabar, Rajiv Virat, Pragya and Divya Prashar and Virender Vikram Singh interacted. The Disability activist Amarjit Singh Anand was also present.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary K. D. Bhandari was the chief guest, SAD district president Gurcharan Channi and Mayor Sunil Jyoti presided over, former chairman Improvement Trust Baljit Singh Neelamahal was also present on the occasion.

The Chief Parliamentary Secretary handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh from the state fund.

Neelamahal provided four special wheel chairs to the affected ones. Special thing remained that the members who themselves were affected by the spinal cord injury, had organised the conference forming Spinal Cord Injury Association.

Parvinder Singh, president of the Association, said their ultimate aim was to bring back life into the lives of the who had lost all hopes in life.

All the political guests present on the occasion, promised the association members that the issue with respect to the allocation of suitable land to the association would be taken up seriously to help the needy.
