Enactus Team of Panjab University lightened up the lives of the specially abled children of Samarth

Chandigarh, October 23, 2019: Enactus team of Panjab University celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali at Samarth, a residential house in Sector 15, Chandigarh for about 30 children with cerebral palsy and mental disability.
The event started with an auspicious Diya lighting ceremony followed by exciting dance and singing performances by Enactus team members. The enthusiasm and smiles of the specially abled children were heart wrenching, informed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor, Enactus team.
The team also organised refreshments for the residents. The funds for this event were raised by the team through marketing of products made by the communities under its two projects namely Dhra and Uday at Organic Market, Chandigarh and Art and Craft Fest at St. Edwards School, Shimla, told Harleen Singh, President, Enactus team. Project Dhara aims to elevate the financial conditions of potters of village Maloya and uplift the dying art of pottery, while, Project Uday aims to eradicate the use of plastic by bringing cloth bags into use, made out of waste cloth by poor women of Haripur Village, Panchkula.
Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University informed that Enactus, a non-profitable International Organization is not about Charity but about enabling better lives by spreading knowledge to the underprivileged, thereby encouraging them to practice and make their own money with good confidence and higher self-esteem. He appreciated the efforts of Enactus members and wished them good luck for all their future endeavours.
The team of 60 Enactus members made a memorable eco-friendly celebration by dancing to the beats of the festive songs along with the specially abled children for more than 2 hours. The Enactus team has been celebrating Diwali with these specially abled children since last few years, conveyed Prof. Kapoor. She averred that participation in such events helps in imbibing many qualities in Enactus students, which eventually helps in making them value driven leaders.
