Emami Agrotech Haldia Plant Set To Become Largest Single Location Edible Oil Refinery In India

Chandigarh, July 26, 2016: Emami Agrotech Limited (EAL), a part of the Emami Groupof Companies, valued at around Rs.45, 000cr, announces the expansion of the refining capacity of its edible oil facility in Haldia by 1000 TPD. The foundation stone for this expansion project was formally laid by Shri Suvendu Adhikari, the Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal at the Company’s Haldia Plant, today.
The Foundation Stone Laying ceremony was also attended by Mr. Aditya Vardhan Agarwal and Mr. Manish Goenka, Directors, Emami Group.
Speaking on this occasion Mr. Aditya Vardhan Agarwal, Director, Emami Group, said, “Our present manufacturing capacity in edible oils is around 4,000 tonnes per day (TPD) between our two plants in Haldia (WB) and Krishnapatnam (AP). The Krishnapatnam unit has a production capacity of 1,000 TPD, while the Haldia unit currently can manufacture around 3000 TPD. With thisexpansion of our Haldia unit at an investment of Rs.300 crore, the capacity of the plant will increase by another 1000 TPD i.e. taking up its total capacity to 4000 TPD. This will make our Haldia facility the largest single location edible oil refinery in India.”
Mr Agarwal further added, “We expect the expansion of Haldia unit to be completed by the end of this year. The expansion will also include setting up of a 7.5 MW captive power plant. We are committed to the industrial resurgence of West Bengal and this investment is a step towards that objective. We are privileged to have the Hon’ble Minister to lay the foundation of the expansion project”
Indian edible oil industry is the world’s fourth-largest industry after USA, China and Brazil and accounts for around 9% of the world’s oil seed production. The Indian edible oil industry continues to be underpenetrated and thereby holds immense business opportunities. Vegetable oil consumption has increased due to rise in overall household income, surging retail sector, increasing health awareness, growing population and increasing demand.
Mr. Manish Goenka, Director, Emami Group also informed, “Apart from expanding our existing facilities, the company will also be coming up with two new plants near Kandla Port in Gujarat and Karnataka in a little over a year time span. Another mustard plant is also in the offing in Rajasthan. With this robust expansion plan made, we aspire to become the number two edible oil manufacturer in the country and increase our market share in the Indian edible oil industry from the present 5.5% to 10-11 % cent by 2018.”
