ECI announces bye election for Talwandi Sabo and Patiala Vidhan Sabha seats on August 21

Chandigarh, July 19, 2014: Election Commission of India(ECI) today decided to hold bye elections in Talwandi Sabo (94) and Patiala(115)Vidhan Sabha constituencies on August 21.

According to election schedule announced by the ECI, Notification of bye election would be issued on July 26 and August 2 would be last day of making nominations. The scrutiny of nominations would be held on August 4 and last date of withdrawal of candidature would be August 6. The date of polling would be on August 21 and counting of votes would be held on August 25.

It may be added that Talwandi Sabo (94) and Patiala(115) Vidhan Sabha seats fell vacant after resignation of Jeet Mahinder Singh Sidhu and Capt.Amarinder Singh .

With the announcement of elections the Model Code of Conduct has come into the force with immediate effect in the district (s) in which whole or any part of assembly constituency going for bye election is included. Model Code of Conduct would be applicable to all candidates, Political parties and the state governments concerned. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to Union Government for the state concerned.
