EC receives report on attack on Congress candidate

Kolkata, May 2 (IANS) The Election Commission Friday received a preliminary report into the alleged attack on Samrat Tapadar, the Congress candidate for the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.

"It is reported the alleged incident took place despite security guards were provided to Tapadar," said a media note issued by the Chief Electoral Officer's office here.

The Congress alleged Trinamool Congress-backed assailants attacked Tapadar on the Kalyani Expressway at Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas district Thursday night.

"Police investigation is on. A detailed report is awaited," the media note said.
