easyday stores organise ‘Clothes contribution drive’ to help underprivileged

Jalandhar/Amritsar, September 1, 2012: easyday Market and easyday stores, owned and operated by Bharti Retail, will organize a ‘Clothes contribution drive’ for underprivileged people from September 1-30, 2012. The initiative is being organised in association with  National organisation Goonj’s ‘Vastra Samman Abhiyaan’ project with M/s Gati KWE as logistics partner.

The initiative aims to help the community in the vicinity of easyday & easyday Market stores, to connect with underprivileged people in their cities. By contributing old clothes, communities will help the lesser privileged get access to a basic need for living—clothing, in addition to helping them economically, improving their living standard and fostering inclusive growth. Store employees of easyday and easyday Market stores will participate in the collection drive and encourage easyday customers to also contribute.

The ‘Clothes contribution drive’ is a collaborative initiative by 200 easyday & easyday Market stores  spread across 100 cities and  Goonj, a reputed national NGO, which provides clothes to millions of poor and needy people and Gati- KWE– a leader in express cargo delivery and a pioneer in distribution and supply chain management solutions in India. Gati-KWE will collect the donated clothes from the easyday & easyday Market stores and deliver them to Goonj collection centres. Then Goonj will further dispense the clothes among under-privileged and economically distressed communities.

The collected clothes will be used to motivate under-privileged people to develop infrastructure in their communities like repair roads, dig wells, clean the villages, among other possible activities. Improvement of existing infrastructure will help the communities create a better life. As part of the initiative, people will be encouraged to do shramdaan (community labour) and get the collected clothes in return, as a reward.
