Jalandhar, November 10, 2015: DST – INSPIRE Science Internship camp (2nd – 6th Nov, 2015) concluded with a great spark among the students. Total 188 students from various schools of Punjab participated in the five - day camp. On the last day of the camp, morning session started with a prestigious talk by Dr. Bijay Singh, FNA, Senior Scientist, Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on the topic “Nitrogen, Food production and Climate change”. He focused that we need to improve the quality of crops but not at the expense of the damaging the environment through indiscriminate use of fertilizers.
The valedictory function of the camp was presided by S. Harinder Pal Singh (DEO), Sh. Ranveer Swami (Deputy DEO), Sh. Anil Awasthi and Sh. Ajay Awasthi. Dr.G.S.Samra took opportunity to thank DST, resource persons, chief guests, organizing committee and the students for making this camp a huge success. Dr. G.S. Samra motivated the students to respect their teachers and to become good human beings by helping others. S. Harinder Pal Singh (DEO) also thanked DST for initiating these kind of camps to inspire and to attract young talent of the country for developing a research aptitude in them. Chief guests, Principal and Dr.ArunDev Sharma (HOD cum co-ordinator) distributed certificates to the participants of the camp. At the end, vote of thanks was given by Dr. InderjeetKaur. During this five day programme, the interns were exposed to leaders of science/ eminent mentors of India. As a healthy mentor- mentee relation is at the heart of the programme success, so each intern was exposed to mentors to learn the ethos of basic theme.
