Chandigarh, January 25, 2015: The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has sanctioned the DST INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) Internship Programme at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
Dr. Anurag Kuhad, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, who has taken the initiative to establish this Centre at PU Campus, will be the Program Coordinator.
Program Coordinator – DST INSPIRE Internship Program Centre, Dr Anurag Kuhad said that first DST INSPIRE Internship camp would be held at PU Campus from March 23 to 27, 2015. A group of 300 students will participate in the fully sponsored 1st DST INSPIRE Internship camp.
The annual budget of DST INSPIRE Internship Program Centre is approximately one crore per annum (for five years total grant 5 Crores). Nobel Laureates, International Scientists, Bhatnagar Awardees, Academy Fellows and Eminent Scientists from National as well as International Institutes like NASA, NIH,
ISRO, IISc, IITs, IISERs, NIPERs, CSIR, ICMR, DST, DBT, central/state universities, research centers, TIFR, BARC, NCL, JNCASR, NBRC, NCBS etc. in the science streams (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences and Earth Sciences) would be invited to motivate young generation with their scientific experiences.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has initiated various schemes under INSPIRE program to attract and retain large number of students in basic science and to promote research and innovation in engineering and medicine.
He said one of the schemes is to organise fully funded DST-INSPIRE Internship camps for 11th standard students. The INSPIRE Internship Programs are intended to expose students to the excitement and methods of science, research and innovation, just prior to the time when they make their career decisions (normally after 12th standard). / (SK Vyas/Jalandhar)
